Jacob 5: 7, 75
7 And it came to pass that the master of the vineyard saw it, and he said unto his servant: It grieveth me that I should lose this tree; wherefore, go and pluck the branches from a bwild olive-tree, and bring them hither unto me; and we will pluck off those main branches which are beginning to wither away, and we will cast them into the fire that they may be burned.

It’s similar to the concept of Reaping and Sowing. If you are alive in Christ you will produce good fruit (good things). If you are dead in Christ your branches will wither and not produce fruit. And if you are not doing as you should you will produce bitter fruit.

The bitter fruit would be one spreading false doctrine, worshiping idols, leading others astray. We should not allow such a person in the church. That is why we need to know the word, and test the spirits. We should not follow every preacher that comes along. References :
