You sound like the disciples who complained when the woman anointed Christ’s feet with costly oil after washing them.. He told them to hush up because "the poor will always be with you, but you will not always have Me". References : John 12:8
There’s lots of anomalies with the faith with respect to its historical makeup.
The Vatican and consequently a lot of the churches spend huge amounts on Altar ornaments when there are plenty of other worthwhile causes.
A lot of Christians would probably wish to do more like Jesus did rather than spend money this way.
However you can understand that if you love someone a lot you want to show them respect. So the money is also spent on nice pretty things as well. I always notice when there are no fresh flowers for some reason.
There are poor and there are rich, the Christian has to show love to both and not dwell on right and wrong too much. sooner or later you just have to get on with it. References :
