One of the sentences contradicts itself. "Even if the bible is proven to be a divinely inspired book, it doesn’t equate to God telling the truth". God is not man that He should lie = a bible verse.
The statement makes no sense. You either believe the bible is true or you don’t. If God says He doesn’t lie, the person reading will be the person having to decide what to believe. A person disbelieving the bible does not render God a liar. References :
The side of that very issue which you end up on tells about your spiritual connection and persuasion. A very telling side as to the spiritual father you are the child of.
I think these things which Jesus said are axioms:
John 10
25 Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father’s name speak for me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."
John 8
42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here."
and
John 8
43 "Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire."
I think at that point, he wasn’t saying "choose". To those he was speaking to, he was saying, "This is what you are." And in front of everyone else there, so they could be exposed.
A believer will see this as true, because the Spirit of God is telling them it’s true:
John 14
15 "If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you."
The world will think that Jesus is lying about these things; or will not have the capacity to put weight upon them. References :
Read a summary of Thomas Acquainas’s "Summa Theologica" I think some of what he writes down, touches a bit on this question.
I may not be summarizing him correctly, but I imagine his argument would go something like this…
1) For something to be THEE God, it must be singular and unlike anything else. It must be supreme. Otherwise, whatever is better or more supreme is logically God.
2) IF there is a God, then he surely created the Universe (see Acquainas’s arguments about the creator or "prime mover") as the Universe can not cause itself into existence.
3) Whomever created the Universe created the laws which govern it. IF that is the case, then our sense of Right and Wrong are governed by the Creator, as HE (or it) defined the laws. Thus, God set the definition of good and bad.
4) There is no such thing as evil, in and of itself. Like a hole is the lack of dirt and not something you can buy and transfer, Evil is merely the absense of good. GOOD is something, evil is the absense. IF God created and set the laws, then he defined GOOD. Therefore HE represents all good, or the definition of good.
5) Going back a second, for every law, we find a law giver. WHO set the laws of nature? Who defined matter? Gravity? etc.? In our everyday lives, when we find a law.. there is always a law giver. Could the law giver of nature be God?
6) Tangent to #4, In nature, we always find the perfect expression of a thing. Perfect expression of beauty, perfect example of cold, of speed, of a particular color. But where is the perfect example of Justice, Love, and Goodness? We can not find perfect expressions of that here on Earth. Every expression of love, justice, goodness, etc. is slightly flawed or imperfect. Therefore COULD the perfect expressions of those attributes exist in the Creator?
7) Therefore, and I might be jumping a few steps here.. God MUST be good. If he were not.. how would we KNOW what good is? If he were not, then wouldn’t whatever is better or slightly more good then God, be what we call "God" ? Shouldn’t we make the most perfect expression of good, justice, and love.. our God and not something LESS?
SO, I’m sure Thomas Acquainas would argue this better then me, but doesn’t the entire CONCEPT of a God, necessitate that he is good?
IF he was corrupt, deceptive or a liar.. wouldn’t by definition, we consider those things GOOD? If he is singular and there is no other supreme, and he is the creator and the law giver.. then isn’t how ever he defines truth and goodness, by his sheer existence and by mere definition, what WE consider to be good and truthful?
How can WE, his creation, a subject of his laws, have a definition of goodness and truth that exceeds his own? Then HE is not good, and we are. But are we the PERFECT expression of either of those things? Then we are forever seeking a more perfect expression then him.
Something along those lines, I imagine. References :
Well I get it and it does make sense – ie. God lies to us and makes us believe it is the truth by telling us it is the truth and telling us that he does not lie and making us feel the holy ghost and feel it in our heart so we think it is true. Also he tells us to not question him because it’s the act of Satan hence you are dissuaded from having such thoughts. I think then it would be similar to "The Matrix" with only a few people being able to break out of the Matrix by taking a red or blue pill. References :
