Matthew 25:1-46 – Bible Reading by Dr. James Montgomery Boice

Listen to the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ at found in Matthew 25:1-46, read by the late Pastor and Theologian Dr. James Montgomery Boice.

James Montgomery Boice (1938-2000) was a successful inner city pastor and articulate spokesman for the Reformed faith in America and around the world. He was the pastor of Philadelphias historic Tenth Presbyterian Church (1968-2000) and his teaching continues to be aired on The Bible Study Hour radio and Internet broadcast.

Under Dr. Boices leadership, Tenth Presbyterian Church became a model for ministry in Americas northeastern inner cities. When he assumed the pastorate of Tenth Church there were 350 people in regular attendance. At his death the church had grown to a regular Sunday attendance in three services of more than 1,200 persons, a total membership of 1,150 persons. Under his leadership, the church established a high school known as City Center Academy, a full range of adult fellowship groups and classes, and specialized outreach ministries to international students, women with crisis pregnancies, homosexual and HIV-positive clients, and the homeless. Many of these ministries are now free-standing from the church.

Dr. Boice gave leadership to groups beyond his own organization. For ten years he served as Chairman of the International Council on Biblical Inerrancy, from its founding in 1977 until the completion of its work in 1988. He also served on the Board of Bible Study Fellowship. He founded the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals (Alliance) in 1994, initially a group of pastors and theologians who were focused on bringing the 20th and now 21st century church to a new reformation.
Dr. Boice was a prodigious world traveler. He journeyed to more than thirty countries in most of the worlds continents, and he taught the Bible in such countries as England, France, Canada, Japan, Australia, Guatemala, Korea and Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Boice held degrees from Harvard University (A.B.), Princeton Theological Seminary (B.D.), the University of Basel, Switzerland (D. Theol.) and the Theological Seminary of the Reformed Episcopal Church (D.D., honorary).

A prolific author, Dr. Boice had contributed nearly forty books on a wide variety of Bible related themes. Most are in the form of expositional commentaries, growing out of his preaching: Psalms (1 volume), Romans (4 volumes), Genesis (3 volumes), Daniel, The Minor Prophets (2 volumes), The Sermon on the Mount, John (5 volumes, reissued in one), Ephesians, Phillippians and The Epistles of John. Many more popular volumes: Hearing God When You Hurt, Mind Renewal in a Mindless Christian Life, Standing on the Rock, The Parables of Jesus, The Christ of Christmas, The Christ of the Open Tomb and Christs Call to Discipleship. He also authored Foundations of the Christian Faith a 740-page book of theology for laypersons. Many of these books have been translated into other languages, such as: French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Chinese and Korean.

He was married to Linda Ann Boice (born McNamara), who continues to teach at the high school they co-founded.

“Jesus, How I Love You – You Taught Me How To Care” – composed and played by Jim Irwin

“Jesus, How I Love You – You Taught Me How To Care” was composed and played by Jim Irwin. Photography by Jim Irwin. The photos are of some of our local scenery and churches. www.ridingmountain.ca

This melody is about Jesus, a great man who preached LOVE for our fellow human beings! Jesus was not the only one that taught this message and please feel free to replace Jesus with Allah, Krishna, Buddha or the name of another great ONE that preached the message of LOVE.

I have no words (just feelings) in this melody. If you care to write words for it and send them to me, I will paste them below (pending my approval). Changes in the title of the song (which I deem appropriate) and different languages are allowed. I hope you enjoy this melody!

If you care to read on, I would like to share some my thoughts. First, I must say I am not religious. I was brought up in a Christian home with Christian relatives that, I feel, are Salt of the Earth people – good living people that care about others and are ready to help anyone. My Father was a man of the cloth who worked for inter-denominational reconciliation. Although I am not religious, I strongly believe in Jesus teachings!

For me, having DEEP RESPECT for EACH AND EVERY ONE, HELPING OTHERS, GOING THE EXTRA MILE and SHARING were Jesus main messages. Can you just imagine a world where every one adhered to and constantly acted according to these beliefs?!! Its hard to imagine but there are a lot of Christians in positions of power that could set examples.

I personally believe there is a big misunderstanding in Jesus message due to peoples restrictive, conditional interpretation of the word LOVE. I believe LOVE means and should be replaces by the phrase DEEPEST RESPECT. Accordingly, Jesus message was WE MUST HAVE THE DEEPEST RESPECT FOR EACH AND EVERY ONE OF OUR FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS! our family, our neighbours, our workmates, our community members, our fellow citizens and all the citizens of each and every other nation on the planet. We must have the DEEPEST RESPECT for those of different genders, colours, sexual persuasions, social statuses, religious beliefs and ideologies. And yes, we must have the deepest respect for our ENEMIES! Likely as not, they are our enemies because of our lack of respect for them.

Maybe we can understand the importance of respect a little better if we look at the implications of lack of respect and disrespect. Lack of respect and disrespect supplant rationality. Disrespect hurts peoples feeling and makes people feel alienated and angry. It creates disrespectfulness, insecurity and hostility in children who pass it on to their children. It allows people to rationalize criminal actions and activities. It allows people to physically and mentally injure others. It causes arguments and adversarial collectivization that divides people and makes them enemies. It causes hate! It causes wars! Disrespect breeds disrespect and the breakdown of every social fabric!

Unravelling the disconnections in the world that disrespect has created can only be accomplished by an understanding of the fundamental importance of respect and applying it on each and every level. RESPECT is the fundamental glue of societies and we must continue to make our world a Global SOCIETY! To achieve this, DEEP RESPECT must be compulsory education in all our societies at all levels, from the cradle to the grave! RESPECT must be unconditional! Respect allows people to agree to disagree without conflict but, more important, it allows people to reach rational, consensus solutions to problems.

The question is how do we hope to deal with the global problems we are facing at this juncture of our history and act in the interests of our future generations, if we cannot rise to higher levels of civility! I think it is a time for a Christian revolution – a time when Christians should embrace the teachings of Jesus, discard their petty differences, come together and act as Jesus would have them do.

And this is the end of my sermon, which I dedicate to my beloved, late Father, the Rev. Roy Irwin.

AMAZING GRACE by Judy Collins

Enjoy the song and the selfmade vid in HD. (-:
“Amazing Grace” is a Christian hymn written by English poet and clergyman John Newton (17251807) published in 1779. With a message that forgiveness and redemption is possible regardless of the sins people commit and that the soul can be delivered from despair through the mercy of God, “Amazing Grace” is one of the most recognizable songs in the English-speaking world.

Newton wrote the words from personal experience. He grew up without any particular religious conviction but his life’s path was formed by a variety of twists and coincidences that were often put into motion by his recalcitrant insubordination. He was pressed into the Royal Navy and became a sailor, eventually participating in the slave trade. One night a terrible storm battered his vessel so severely that he became frightened enough to call out to God for mercy, a moment that marked the beginning of his spiritual conversion. His career in slave trading lasted a few years more until he quit going to sea altogether and began studying theology.

Ordained in the Church of England in 1764, Newton became curate of Olney, Buckinghamshire, where he began to write hymns with poet William Cowper. “Amazing Grace” was written to illustrate a sermon on New Year’s Day of 1773. It is unknown if there was any music accompanying the verses, and it may have been chanted by the congregation without music. It debuted in print in 1779 in Newton and Cowper’s Olney Hymns, but settled into relative obscurity in England. In the United States however, “Amazing Grace” was used extensively during the Second Great Awakening in the early 19th century. It has been associated with more than 20 melodies, but in 1835 it was joined to a tune named “New Britain” to which it is most frequently sung today.

Author Gilbert Chase writes that “Amazing Grace” is “without a doubt the most famous of all the folk hymns”,[1] and Jonathan Aitken, a Newton biographer, estimates that it is performed about 10 million times annually.[2] It has had particular influence in folk music, and become an emblematic African American spiritual. Its universal message has been a significant factor in its crossover into secular music. “Amazing Grace” saw a resurgence in popularity in the U.S. during the 1960s and has been recorded thousands of times during and since the 20th century, sometimes appearing on popular music charts.

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now can see.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my Fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils and snares,

I have already come;
‘Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

And when we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ll have no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we first begun.
