People read them when they’re feeling a bit down, it makes them feel better about themselves. But in reality I don’t think anyone puts it into practice. You might try and improve your life by living by them which is great, but I think really people just end up doing what they always did.

Herman Melville, Robert Louis Stevenson, and other 19th Century authors use this phrase, and Christiandom, and Christian men often.

in 19th century literature (and before) "Christendom" was another way of saying "Western Civilization." The "Christian" west was differentiated from other areas of the world, (India, East Asia, Middle East, Africa) where other religions dominated.

To characterize something as a "Christian Land" is therefore to characterize it as a part of the "west."

I know in Judaism we have people we read and then people we don’t read.
Some authors have more clout than others, and depending on what form of Judaism you practice the author who is often a Rabbi will also be more widely read than someone else.

Is it this way in Christianity? If so, who are good Christian authors worth trusting on their findings that most Christians or most people within a certain branch of Christianity can rely on?

As far as Christian authors in general (not just history, but all subjects), there are a few I trust. Some excellent ones are Francis Collins, Kenneth Miller, Ravi Zacharias, Norman Geisler, Polycarp, Eusebius, Clement of Rome, Ignatius, Irenaeus, Augustine of Hippo, and Tertullian.

I’m skeptical of both Lee Strobel and Josh McDowell, and won’t have anything to do with Michael Behe, or "Dr." Dino and his ilk.

Hey, I need some help. I love Christian Romance, but I’m running out of authors who I know write historical books. I love Lori Wick, and am almost finished with all her books. I’ve read evey janette Oke Book, I have a hard time with Beverly Lewis, I just can’t get into them. Lori Copeland too. I don’t know why , but I do. Any historical christian authors are welcome! Please and thanks!

You may enjoy some books by Lawanna Blackwell. I particularly liked her series called The Gresham Chronicles: The Widow of Larkspur Inn, The Courtship of the Vicar’s Daughter, The Dowry of Miss Lydia Clark and The Jewel of Gresham Green (which will be released in July of this year). They are set in the 1800s in a little village in England. She also wrote the Tales of London series and The Victorian Serenade series.

Another really good writer is Jane Peart who wrote The Brides of Montclair series which starts in the 1700s, before the American Revolution, in Virginia and goes up to modern day. The books are: Valiant Bride; Ransomed Bride; Fortune’s Bride; Folly’s Bride; Yankee Bride / Rebel Bride; Gallant Bride; Shadow Bride; Destiny’s Bride; Jubilee Bride; Mirror Bride; Hero’s Bride; Senator’s Bride; Daring Bride: Montclair At the Crossroads, 1932-1939; Courageous Bride; and A Montclair Homecoming.

Eugenia Price was another good writer (she died in 1996). Her Savannah Quartet was very good (set in the South before, during and after the Civil War): Savannah; To See Your Face Again; Before the Darkness Falls and Stranger in Savannah.

You may also appreciate some of Gilbert Morris’ various series. He writes Christian historical fiction that has romance in it (though they are not Christian Romance per se). His long series called The House of Winslow is excellent. It starts with The Honorable Imposter, in Europe in the 1600s among people who are leaving to go to America, and the books continue down through the years.

There was a Christian author whose Christian romances are considered classics: Grace Livingston Hill. You may like some of her books, too.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for asking and God bless you as well.

In addition to reading the Bible every day, I’m currently reading and thoroughly enjoying The Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer. If you haven’t read any of Tozer’s books yet I highly recommend him.

Is there a modern-day book author or speaker who discounts the concept of God sending His children to burn in Hell, and who accepts that even people who do not "accept" Jesus might be precious in God’s eyes?

.

A Course In Miracles, said to be the words of Jesus, does not speak of hell. It speaks of all else, but hot hell.

Also Dialogue in Awakening, (also Jesus) has no mention of hell.

I believe hell to be a man-made concept from days long gone by when there were many myths and strange beliefs.

.

Even before I knew Stephanie Meyer grew up in the Mormon church, I would find bits and pieces of Christian jargon or lingo in her writings. I wondered if anyone else noticed this too! Also, examples too…por favor!
I should also state, that I’m not assuming that either J.K. Rowling or Stephanie Meyer are Christians. They may or may not be. That’s not what I’m looking to discuss

like someone else said, the apple on the cover is a reference to the apple Adam and Eve ate that gave them knowledge and i evil in the garden of Eden.

i havent read all of twilight, but i read other people’s responses and they keep saying that edward wanted to protect bella’s virtue and thats kinda a big thing in christianity. "doing it" is a pretty serious sin before your married and if edward didnt want to, then that would be a strong christian thing, i guess.

theres a lot in HP too. when Harry dies in the 7th book, its like Jesus dying to save the souls of everyone. Dumbledore explained to him that because he chose to die to save everyone else, it caused voldemort to be unable to control them, like Jesus dying to save us from the devil.

theres also the whole good vs evil. Dumbledore had like 5 whole pages in the 6th book explaining how powerful harry’s love is and how thats the only thing that can stop Voldemort’s hate. like how our love for each other can hurt the devil.

also in the 7th, when ron left, he was welcomed back by harry (even if a little reluctently by hermione) which shows how much of a good person he is and that he’s like God and will accept traitors back if they ask for forgiveness

truthfully, i dont know why some Christians are against harry potter or fantasy books in gerneral, especially after the 7th one. theres almost like a gerneral rule that fantasy books are all good vs evil and that good always triumphs. personally, if fantasy isnt like that i think its kinda lame
